Pop-A-Smoke 2016 ---
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is my second update I have sent out to remind everyone of the Pop a Smoke Reunion that will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Jacksonville, Florida from August 24-28, 2016.
I have added email addresses to my original list and now will reach a larger audience. If you have not received a reunion package from the headshed please let me know and I will get you on the mailing list. Also if you know of individuals that would like to be on my mailing list please send their info to me.
July 27, 2016 is the Armed Forces Reunions, Inc. deadline for having your money and paperwork in to them.
Quite a few of the other Squadrons have already set up dinners but then we have our Laughlin, Nevada gathering that gives a lot of the folks in the western US a chance get together and so this reunion may not be as convenient for them. Also August in Florida may be a tad warm. Two years ago in San Diego was very comfortable.
Doug Raupp and myself split the reunion coordinator duties since Whimp stepped aside after the last DC reunion (Super job Bob!!) and this year I am the lucky one.
If you are planning to be at the reunion or not I would like to know. This lets me know my email address for you is good at the very minimum.
Jerry McClees has done a nice job of designing and getting made up a range of clothing items. These include hats, T-Shirts, and wind breakers. We still have some of this inventory to sell. If there is a particular item that you would like to see Jer work on for this year's reunion please get back to me with your ideas. Even if you do not plan on attending this year we can fill orders for clothing items we have not sold yet. I will determine what Doug still has and send out a list of items, sizes, and pricing, hopefully with pictures. There may be some pictures still up on the HMH-463 website that Mike Amtower oversees.
We get questions as to why come to a reunion to see old squadron mates. Shortly after last Fall's Laughlin gathering closed down Hoot Gibson passed on. Buzz Busby is also no longer with us. These gatherings give us a chance to renew friendships from almost 50 years ago so please give attending some consideration if you are able.
If you would like to have an informal squadron dinner gathering on Friday evening Aug 28th, please send me your ideas. The Hyatt can host us but it may be cheaper to pick a restaurant near the hotel and cab over in groups.
As far as tour activities, there is a St. Augustine Tour on Thursday for $74/each. Friday there is a Lunch Cruise at $52/each and Amelia Island Shopping Tour at $49/each plus the golf tournament at NAS Jax.
We are planning on having a squadron hootch if we get enough attendees to qualify where we can sit around and share stories, pictures, and cool drinks.
We have been including members of HMH-462 with our group so as they don't feel like orphans. If you know of any 462 folks please pass this information along to them.
As a final note if there are news items or just things you would think this email list would like to know, please get that information to me and I will send it out. This includes pictures also.
Until next time,
