Hawaii 1974 -- They were delivering equipment from the Training Area on the Big Island,
after a big exercise, to a pier for loading onto a Navy Ship. While landing,
tons of dirt and sand got kicked up - the Pilot couldn't see - he drifted
into a steel light pole - shearing the rotor blades off - no one was killed
fortunately - the worst was a severly broken leg on the 1st Mech; L/Cpl R. Sperling.
